It's been another one of those weeks — the kind I just can't seem to keep up with. It's been fast-paced and full of curveballs.
Take, for instance, the fact that every time the sewage company unexpectedly stops by to empty the septic tank I am expecting company. This law of the universe has never been broken.
Thank you, universe.
Hopefully you will never have to smell the phenomenon that is "moving the septic tank's 'nasty' through a hose to a large truck." It is enough to send me (and my guest) running out the house and flying down the hill to pastures with cleaner air.
The plus side of today's little septic tank surprise was watching the burly worker man get all his equipment set up. Well, the actual setting up of equipment was nothing to write home about, but the point when he stopped, set the hose down, pulled out his phone, and snapped a picture of one of my rose buds was. I basked in the poetic power of the moment.
In other news, my neighbor has done laundry every day for almost a week. This is a pattern. I know this because we live on the same property and share the washer and dryer in the garage.
My neighbor is a lovely woman married to a nice man. They have no kids. I'm trying to figure out the cause of these laundry marathons. Maybe they're dirt bikers? Or host weddings with loads of linens? Or have a persistent leak in their house that dirties piles and piles of towels? It's a mystery, and I'm determined to get to the bottom of it.
In other other news, I've discovered that seeing a picture of a cup of tea satisfies some deep part of my soul — the same part of my soul that actually drinking a cup of tea satisfies.
I think that's about all the wonderfully edifying and educationally stimulating thoughts I have for today. Boy, aren't you glad you stopped by? I am. :)
Happy Tuesday, friends.

This post made me smile. Thank you for finding beauty in the ordinary!
ReplyDeleteI'm glad, Julianna. :) Thank you for telling me.
DeletePlease solve the laundry mystery. I am losing sleep! :o) Seriously, the other day while washing dishes, I found myself pause to contemplate various reasons why she must launder daily. Maybe they don't have a kitchen table? Therefore, they eat all of their meals in bed. And, maybe they are rather clumsy and tend to spill food and drink on themselves and their sheets. Since they are newly married, perhaps they can only afford one set of sheets. Naturally, it would only make sense for her to make the daily trek to the laundry room. There is so much scope for imagination, isn't there?? ~Sharon
ReplyDeleteSharon, this made me laugh! I think you could be onto something with your sheet scenarios...
DeleteBetween the two of us we could write a children's book about the mystery of the massive mounds of laundry. ;)
I'll let you know if I solve the mystery anytime soon...
Oh, this reminds me of our shared laundry room in the little basement apartment Gryphon and I shared for the first month of our marriage. There were 3 people living upstairs in the main house. 1 never did laundry the entire time I was there. 1 did two loads every weekend late on Sunday night. I wasn't working yet, so I figured since everyone else was gone during the week that the weekdays late morning would be a great time to do laundry. Nope. 1 of the girls upstairs would do *1* article of clothing at a time. She would rush home at lunch to "change her laundry" and go dashing back to work. After a full week of this I tried to talk to her (nope, not happening), so then I left a note asking when would be the best time for me to do laundry. Nothing. After she got home from work, the washer and dryer were going non-stop until 1 a.m. *every* night. (Laundry room was the unfinished half of the basement on the other side of our bedroom wall...).
ReplyDeleteI finally started taking out her one item from the wash and carefully (keeping it clean) set it aside while I frantically tried to get one load done each afternoon after she had headed back to work. Then I would neatly tuck it back in the washer (same with the dryer). Alas, she came home early one day, and she decided we were mortal enemies because I touched her things.
I was thankful when we moved out.
Oh what an unfortunate situation, Sharalyn! Goodness, how tough to share a living space with someone unreasonable. And how lovely to have your own washer and dryer now. ;)
DeleteFortunately my neighbor is gracious, reasonable, and quite likable, and we haven't had any conflict. Somehow everyone's laundry gets done! But goodness, I am curious what she's washing so regularly. There has been a laundry lull this week, though. I wonder if, like your roommate, she's using the "wash one item at a time" method?
